Aliens: Colonial Marines will be the latest in a long line of examples of how big an impact the Alien franchise has had on videogames, Randy Pitchford has told 360 Magazine in a recent interview:360: Do you consider making this an official sequel a way of putting the series back into the public conscious after what many considered to be two lacklustre sequels?Randy Pitchford: I think our goal, as lovers of great videogames and as rabid fans of the films, is to offer an authentic and legitimate interactive experience with Aliens: Colonial Marines. I imagine Burke from Aliens would say, “Ok, look. This is an emotional moment for all of us, okay? I know that. But, let’s not make snap judgments, please? This is clearlyclearlyan important series we’re dealing with and I don’t think that you or I or anybody has the right to arbitrarily judge these films.” Burke was kind of an asshole… you know… if we’re going back to LV-426, we could find out Burke’s fate. That would be interesting…360: They still sucked, though. So why do you think James Cameron’s Aliens has had such a lasting influence of the games industry?RP: That’s a great question. We see the influence of Alien and Aliens everywhere and it never seems to stop. It’s in Halo, it’s in Call of Duty, it’s in Half-LifeI can’t think of a science fiction videogame that doesn’t have some kind of influence from Aliens in it. I’ve been borrowing from Aliens my entire career. It makes me feel humbled and honored to be able to work on a team that is doing the real thing. To read the full, in-depth interview pick up a copy of 360 Magazine, Issue 91, from all good newsagents, the Imagine Shop or from the Apple's Newsstand, on sale now.
